Paphos is situated on the south-west coast of the island. It is an area rich in history. In fact it is well-known as the island of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.Paphos is also the home of marvelous archaeological treasures and due to its antiquities, beautiful churches and monasteries, UNESCO has included the whole town in its World Cultural Heritage Sites list.

Contemporary Paphos is a popular destination and is busy with all year round visitors. Its image has been enhanced by its road infrastructure, the development of the Paphos International Airport, the Golf courses, comprehensive leisure facilities and its cultural calendar.

The Paphos region is surrounded by a dramatic coastline with breathtaking seascapes and magical sunsets. The countryside is serenely beautiful throughout the year with fertile plains and citrus fruit plantations and there are numerous banana plantations in the districts. Inland, it is an easy drive up to the cool fir-covered Troodos Mountains, were forgotten villages still exist in the traditional ways. And yet still further is the rugged Akamas peninsula with its un-spoilt surroundings and the Turtle Nesting Reserve.

Paphos is well known for the excellence of its hotels and apartments, catering for every pocket, from being pampered in a five-star luxury hotel or just staying in an unpretentious country chalet.

Agia Solomoni Church

The scared tree at the entrance is said to cure ailments.

Aphrodite's Baths

An area in the Akamas between Polis and Cape Arnaouti. It's a small grotto shaded by an old fig tree, legend has it that the goddess Aphrodite used to bathe there.

Medieval Fort

Paphos focal point is the fishing harbor and adjacent the fort which was originally built by the Byzantine. Beautiful preserved floors dating back to 3rd century.

Petra tou Romiou

This area has one of the most beautiful coastlines in Cyprus. According to mythology, Aphrodite rose from the waves.

Tombs of the Kings

No royalty was actually buried here, but these impressive underground tombs are carved out of solid rock

Tsada Golf Club

The club is situated near Tsada village and is a 15-minute drive north from Paphos town. It plays to a par 72 and measures over 6,000 metres. Clubhouse facilities include a bar, restaurant, tennis, outdoor swimming pool, a driving range and putting green.

The Secret Valley Golf Club

Located 18kms east of Paphos near Petra tou Romiou, and stretching down from craggy wooded hillsides to the Mediterranean Sea. It is an 18-hole course, plays to a par 72, and created within a two and a half thousand acre estate.

Byzantine Museum – spectacular religious icons and wall paintings

Archaeological Museum- it includes monuments from prehistoric times through to the Roman era and medieval period. On the World Heritage list.

Ethnographic Museumsee how people used to live in days gone by

Geroskipou Folk Art Museum– impressive collection of folk art and crafts from 19 and 20th century.

The Turnkish Baths - near the old Market Place, they now function as a museum and municipal cultural centre.

WHERE TO EAT

With so many different restaurants and varied cuisines, one is spoilt for choice. From a gourmet meal to an authentic fresh fish meze, stone grill dinning and spicy stir fries, all tastes are catered for and not forgetting the wonderful selection of locally produced wines.

SHOPPING

For a totally different kind of experiencewonder through the old town, especially in the Municipal Market.There are lots of great little shops and boutiques from where you can purchase an unusual gift.

NIGHTLIFE

Head down to Agios Antonios Street better known as "Bar Street" where you will find an entire row of bars, pubs, karaoke bars and clubs.
