A new commercial tower planned for next to Limassol’s ‘Avenue 15’

Following the full operation of ‘Avenue 15’, Property Gallery’s premium A-class business centre which is located on Makarios Avenue, another business activity unit is to be constructed next to the commercial building. Increased demand for office space for business housing purposes in Limassol necessitates the creation of new commercial buildings, Property Gallery has said. Due to the extremely high demand for office spaces for rent in Limassol, ‘Avenue 15’ has already rented out its available offices and shops.   Continue Read More

Restaurant review: Yialos Tavern by the Sea

By Sarah Coyne As the summer kicks in, it is time to return to our favourite restaurants suited to sunnier days. One such restaurant is the family-owned Yialos Tavern by the Sea, positioned on the coast road on the western side of Coral Bay. There is a slightly uninspiring sign to point you in the right direction. While this coastline, with its many eateries, seems to get smarter and more luxurious many also seem to be getting more and more Read More

Restaurant review: Sumo Sushi & Bento, Limassol

We visited Sumo Sushi & Bento on a particularly frigid weeknight, with the type of cold in the air that forces you to re-evaluate every decision that resulted in you being anywhere else other than the underside of a hefty blanket. The Limassol restaurant, which finds itself on Makariou avenue, itself a welcome reprieve from the city’s coast-dominated culinary offerings, appeared as an oasis of sorts. Its clean, uncluttered wood-laden interior was awash in the orange glow of its light Read More

Restaurant review: Enigma, Larnaca

I remember the days when some people would laugh knowing I lived in Larnaca saying ‘it’s only good for the airport!’ I think it’s pretty safe to say that this is now far from the truth. The town is up and coming with new hotspots, restaurants, quality hotels, nightlife and of course, an upgraded airport! One of the more modern, chic hotels in the Makenzy area is home to the Enigma restaurant. While the name suggests something baffling and Read More

Restaurant review: Gustoso, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne 2022 was a year when many new restaurants opened in Paphos, but sometimes, it is nice to return to the old ones, which have stood the test of time. One of these is Gustoso on the Tomb of the Kings Avenue. The owners have been in the restaurant business for many years; I remember a holiday to Cyprus years ago when I enjoyed the most wonderful Sunday lunch at their previous venue, the Clubhouse on the old Read More

Restaurant review: Itameshi, Nicosia

It is very difficult to define what fusion cuisine actually is, if only for its constant evolution, a byproduct of globalisation and migratory phenomena influencing cultures all over the world. Even the most traditional Cypriot dishes are somewhat fusion, as people transiting over the course of the centuries have inevitably changed the way people eat on the island. The latest addition to the fusion restaurant scene in Nicosia, however, is definitely an unusual one. Itameshi opened a few months ago Read More

Gatzke’s comments were delivered during a speech at a 2023 kick-off event held with the bank’s management staff. Restaurant review: Ithaki Garden Restaurant, Larnaca

I must have walked the shopping streets of Larnaca hundreds of times. Knowing the little alleyways and back streets that connect roads is very handy because, who wants to go the long way round!? One of these little interconnecting alleys in particular has a little garden restaurant that I have walked past many a time thinking to myself I must try it sometime but of course I never did. A few days before Christmas, doing the obligatory last minute shopping Read More

Restaurant review: Nema, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne Sometimes we save the best until last, and for 2022 with my recent discovery of the new restaurant Nema, this is precisely the case. Opposite the Almyra Hotel, there is not much to see when you drive past. This is probably one of the reasons I have missed it since it opened in July. But if you venture up the steps and through the glass door, there is a fabulous modern restaurant interior. As it was raining Read More

Restaurant review: To Edesma tou Paradisou, Larnaca

As with most people, when I go out to dine I am initially drawn by the appearance of the place. Thinking an establishment has taken time, effort and care to impress with their design indicates the same attention and detail is reflected in the food. No matter how many times I fall for this and end up with disappointing food, I still get drawn in! But recently in the centre of Larnaca I spotted an eatery called To Edesma tou Read More

Restaurant review: Tbilisi Georgian Restaurant, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne It is impressive, and sometimes surprising, that after the last couple of difficult years so many new restaurants are opening in Paphos. One such new addition is Tbilisi Georgian Restaurant, which opened just over six months ago. It is easy to spot on the coast road at the St George Hotel traffic lights. Tbilisi, as the name suggests, offers Georgian cuisine.   As a country, Georgia sits between Western Asia and Eastern Europe, with its cuisine being Read More

Restaurant review: The Gym, Nicosia

I bet that nowadays when restaurant owners and managers meet to discuss their establishments’ operations – what works, what needs to be improved and what needs to change – they place much attention and care on how everything would look in a picture. In one word, they try to make it as Instagrammable as possible. Although I don’t like the word, silly neologism, and I don’t always understand why people need to take 30 pictures of their eggs Benedict, the Read More

Restaurant review: The Woodman, Limassol

Revisiting a restaurant is always tricky. If your previous experience was positive, it raises expectations and thus widens the scope for disappointment. On the other hand, if things weren’t quite up to scratch, you may have some sort of lingering bias. In the case of The Woodman, a sports pub and restaurant in Limassol, I have enjoyed the place before and proceeded to this time too. The Woodman has been a prominent fixture in Limassol for a long time. After Read More

Restaurant review: Stou Nikola

Usually visitors from abroad will ask where the best places are to go. I’m happy to help but always worry whether or not they will like it. However, this time round, I was asked out to dinner but not asked to recommend where to go. My relatives had driven past a restaurant, decided they liked the look of it and wanted to give it a go. I was happy with that! We drove to Kiti and pulled up outside what Read More

Restaurant Review: Ousia, Limassol

First impressions can often paint a distorted picture, particularly when it comes to restaurants, however, in this instance they were very much on point. As we were shown to our table at Ousia, one of the first things we noticed was a miniature tin container of cold pressed, extra virgin Cyprus oil in its original packaging, meaning it’s not refilled, but replaced. It’s a small touch, but considering practices in other restaurants, it’s one that I very much appreciated.   Read More

Restaurant review: Notios at the Almyra

By Sarah Coyne As autumn months beckon, perhaps now is the time to consider restaurants in hotels which are becoming quieter. One of my favourites has always been Notios at the Almyra Hotel in Paphos, and returning on a summer evening, I was pleased to see that not much had changed. The covered restaurant is positioned on one of the hotel’s terraces, offering an elevated view across the sea to the harbour and castle.   Notios reflects the rest of Read More

Restaurant review: Matsuhisa Limassol, Amara hotel

By Paul Lambis Meeting a legend is not something that happens every day, so when the opportunity arises, you seize it. For over three decades, world-renowned chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa has built a global culinary empire, blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients, and creating flavoursome works of art with meticulous attention to detail.   With restaurants on five continents, it was only a matter of time before the acclaimed chef agreed to set new standards in Cyprus’ culinary life, Read More

Restaurant review: Panos Steak House, Larnaca

The Phinikoudes sea front can be a busy place, and its strip of bars, restaurants and cafés can make a dining experience there a noisy affair. However, towards the end, nearer to the castle, it starts to settle down and is a calmer experience. It is at this end of Phinikoudes that you will come across Panos Steak House. Not only is there less hustle and bustle but you also have the calming view of the sea only 20 metres Read More

Restaurant review: No 9, Latchi, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne Sometimes we all need a little push to take time off work and partake of the touristy activities on our doorstep. With the family’s arrival after a long absence, a day in Latchi was just what the doctor ordered. This included hiring a speedboat for a couple of hours, followed by a leisurely lunch by the sea. Latchi is full of great restaurants to choose from, but we wanted to try somewhere that had been repeatedly recommended Read More

Restaurant review: Kyra Giorgena Tavern, Larnaca

I enjoy trying different cuisines, flavours, and dishes from different parts of the world. However, finding truly authentic restaurants that are a decent representation of the cuisine they offer might be challenging. Finding a classic, authentic Cyprus meze is something you can almost never go wrong with in Cyprus. Many people will tell you that to experience the best of Cyprus, you must travel to a village. Tradition, on the other hand, is not bound by geography, and the good Read More

Restaurant review: Le Bordeaux, Limassol

Though there is a misperception that negative criticism implies honesty, I am delighted when things align in such a way that an experience is overwhelmingly positive. Our visit to French bistro and wine bar Le Bordeaux in Limassol ticked all the right boxes. Situated in Limassol’s old town, within earshot of Anexartisias and the historical Municipal University Library building, Le Bordeaux is somewhat unassuming from the outside, a renovated classic Cypriot house converted into a bar, restaurant and private event Read More

Restaurant review: Almar, Mackenzie beach, Larnaca

Our decision to go out for lunch was akin to using a Venn-diagram. The dust having subsided, we wanted to enjoy the decent weather! Wanting to take advantage, we headed down to the Mackenzie beach area to find a restaurant where we could sit by the sea. Another reason we like Mackenzie is because there is something mesmerising about watching the planes fly overhead and landing in the nearby airport. We decided on Almar seafood bar, where we were given Read More

Restaurant review: Peggy’s Secret Garden Café, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne I am not sure if everyone is the same at this time of year, but with the warmer weather, large-sized meals, especially at lunchtime, do not have quite the same appeal. A great place to go for a light lunch in Peyia is Peggy’s Secret Garden Café. You certainly have to know about this place to experience it. You will find it on the main road up to the village centre, housed in a traditional village house Read More

Restaurant review: Meraki Market Café, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne As my January diet did not turn out to be quite as healthy as I had planned, I went looking for divine inspiration at the Meraki Market Café. In Paphos, this is the headquarters of healthy food and was the first vegetarian restaurant to open! It was launched in 2018, set back from the coastal road at the St George’s traffic lights in Chlorakas. The building offers an internal dining area, plus plenty of outdoor tables for Read More

Restaurant review: Divinus, Larnaca

We all like to travel but in recent times haven’t really been able to. However, if you want a slice of Italy and an authentic Italian experience you’re in luck! Divinus is a relatively new addition to the Makenzie strip and promises to share the exquisite tastes of Italian culture. With it bringing the finest ingredients straight from Italy, I was really looking forward to seeing what Divinus had to offer. The inside of this sea-front eatery is modern and Read More

Restaurant review: Cliff Social All Day Project, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne It is a brave restaurant owner who launches a new business during these uncertain times. Thankfully, this did not stand in the way of the team at the Cliff Social All Day Project, which opened its doors last December. This large venue must have been a considerable investment for the owners.   Located on the cliff (hence the name) below the Moutallos school building, it offers sweeping views of Paphos and the coastline. The interior has a Read More

Restaurant review: Elia Backyard, Larnaca

By Andreas Nichola 2021 proved to be an almost crippling year for the hospitality industry. Bars and restaurants had to close with uncertainty about when they would be allowed to open or operate fully. Measures put in to place to limit customers. Business owners have had a torrid time. Keeping all this in mind, it takes a brave person to actually open a restaurant. However, despite all the obstacles presented, that is exactly what Elia Backyard restaurant decided to do. Read More

Restaurant review: Por Favor, Nicosia

For a while I’ve had the distinct feeling there is a growing thirst among the people of Nicosia for more quality and choice when it comes to international cuisine in the capital. I’m talking about the fine details, those details that are key when it comes to recognising if a cuisine is truly authentic or just pretending to be. Good food has long become cool, something to discuss among friends on a night out, something to marvel over in a Read More

Restaurant review: Kathodon, Nicosia

Touristy? Yes. Noisy? Quite. Overpriced? Slightly. Then why, one might ask, did I decide to review the somewhat wilting Kathodon tavern in Nicosia? Because, despite its shortcomings, as one of the first restaurants I visited after moving to Cyprus, I have a soft spot for it; it will always represent the beginning of my life on the island.   That said, Kathodon is not just a mere sentimental choice for me. Its blend of Greek and Levantine cuisine actually make Read More

Restaurant review: Londos Perasma Restaurant, Timi, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne As we enter the winter months, our attention suddenly turns to restaurants with cosy indoor seating, to protect us from the elements. Ironically, on my visit to this restaurant we experienced our first rain shower after many dry months. The Londos Perasma Restaurant is right by the B6 road in Timi, on the way to the airport. Driving past regularly, I had always observed it to be a very popular. This was my mistake! Two recent meals Read More

Restaurant Review: Vitro Osteria, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne One evening we found Vitro Osteria quite by accident, as one of our favourite restaurants nearby was fully booked. To be honest, I really loathe sharing this new Osteria, as I worry it will get too busy and I won’t get in again! Described as ‘a real taste of Italy in the city centre of Paphos’, this lovely new restaurant is situated on the road opposite the main CyTA offices. Set back from the Municipal Gardens, it Read More

Restaurant review: The Old Village Tavern, Ayia Napa

Ayia Napa is usually associated with rowdy tourists, clubs, alcohol and partying. However, there is more to the town than that. In addition to arguably some of the beaches on the island, there are some great places to eat that have kept in line with Cypriot culture while maintaining reasonable prices so locals don’t feel like they are being ripped off in a tourist area. One such place is the Old Village Tavern. On the outskirts of Ayia Napa, it Read More

Restaurant review: Nameless, Protaras

Living in Cyprus does not mean you can’t feel like a tourist if you so wish. My staycation took me to the east coast of the island and the beautiful beaches of Protaras. Where going out to eat can be mind boggling. How do all those restaurants stay open? Someone at the hotel had told us about a place off the main tourist strip called Nameless so to save time thinking about where to eat, we decided to give it Read More

Restaurant review: Au Bon Plaisir, Nicosia

By Jonathan Shkurko The concept of family-run restaurants tends to be inappropriately exploited and used way too lightly. Not trying to be too pedantic but a family-run restaurant is one that a family owns, which means that usually the waiters or waitresses and the cooks or chefs are from the same family.   I firmly believe the concept is exploited because customers are naturally drawn to the idea of eating in a cosy, family-freindly setting. In my humble opinion, there’s Read More

Giving clothes a second chance

One young man’s aim to launch a fashion line has seen him develop a movement in Cyprus to promote more sustainability around the clothes we wear. And that devotion was valued by his customers, who would often wear the same pair of shoes for years, bringing Read More

Restaurant review: Cabana Beach Bar and Restaurant, Paphos

Cabana Beach Bar and restaurant is the place to go this summer in Paphos and is hugely popular due to its fantastic location, great food and stylish vibe. Restaurant review: Mingle, Larnaca

Larnaca’s modernisation has led to a raft of trendy new places opening over the last few years. One of the many is the Qbic hotel on Ermou. By the entrance, you’ll see a delightful old bicycle that has a basket of flowers over the back wheel and a sign saying Read More

Restaurant review: Black Rabbit, Limassol

A recent visit on an uncharastically breezy evening to the Black Rabbit bar and restaurant marked a much-anticipated return to maskless, indoor dining, courtesy of the recent relaxation in pandemic measures. The otherwise empty indoor area of the restaurant signalled that perhaps it was too soon for people to feel comfortable having a meal in a closed space, as all other patrons were occupying tables in the exterior area of the restaurant.   Black Rabbit is situated in the Old Read More

Restaurant review: Da Vinci, Limassol

Sometimes you visit a restaurant to satisfy your more voracious desires, to encircle yourself with sheer quantity and go to town on a prodigious amount of sustenance. Other times you tend to prioritise presentation, complex flavour profiles and more considered dishes. Da Vinci falls firmly in the latter category of establishment. Nestled deep in Limassol’s old town, Da Vinci wears many different hats: bar, restaurant, rooftop venue for hire, hookah lounge, live music events. When seated at one of the Read More

Restaurant review: Rebuke Lounge Bar, Larnaca

Restaurants and bars are open again! Let’s hope its permanent this time as it’s refreshing to go out and feel some vibrancy. With this in mind, we booked at ReBuke lounge on the ever popular Makenzie beach of Larnaca which is buzzing again as things almost feel (dare I say) normal. Restaurant review: ESOBGA tavern, Nicosia

There’s something wonderfully refreshing and liberating about eating surrounded by green. Even just thinking about a meal enjoyed in a garden fills me with positive vibes. That said, the opportunities of dining among the lush vegetation in Cyprus are quite scarce. Near the sea, definitely. In the mountains, possibly. In a cool garden, now that can be tricky, particularly in dry and busy Nicosia, But, on a warm evening in May, the English School came to my aid.   No, Read More

The concept of gourmet burger has long been explored and exploited by restaurants and pubs all over the world. Restaurant review: The Railway Inn, Paphos

The Railway Inn in Chlorakas Paphos has a well-earned reputation as a traditional British style pub serving tasty homemade dishes. As with other venues, pandemic restrictions have meant the once lively venue which usually hosts regular events has turned to take away and delivery with fish and chips on Fridays and generous Sunday lunches proving popular.       Continue reading at source: Cyprus Read More

Restaurant review: Searays cafe bar, Paphos

Searays cafe bar is a hugely popular place to visit as it enjoys a great location on the edge of the Akamas national park in Peyia, Paphos. However, this is hardly relevant at present as in common with other bars and restaurants around the island, it is closed to customers, offering only take away and delivery. Currently, the entire ‘dine out at home’ experience is about customer service and the food.   Continue reading at source: Cyprus Read More

Restaurant review: Riganato Greek Grill House, Paphos

By Sarah Coyne   We all have that go-to takeaway that we rush to when the urge to cook is not there! And with all restaurants closed we find ourselves frequenting the Riganato Greek Grill House. And, as owner Demetris Ioannou says on his website, “when life gives you lemons, squeeze them on your souvlaki”. Since opening in 2017 near the court, this restaurant’s main aim has always been to take traditional Greek and Cypriot dishes and serve them with Read More

Restaurant review: To Achilleion, Nicosia

Among the ‘knowing ones’, this establishment is also known as Platanos – due to the giant Asian Plane tree beneath which it shelters – the place, or the club, or simply, Andro’s. Before the scourge forced it to comply with our life saving legislation, this was the harbour of the most diverse dining coterie in Cyprus: mechanics and ministers, diplomats and designers, ambassadors, authors and academics – above and below the salt – lawyers, liars, accountants and actuaries by the Read More

Restaurant review: TGI Fridays, Larnaca

Not being able to go out and enjoy a good restaurant is a little frustrating. However, it does lead to a lot of home cooking and experimenting with new recipes. There comes a point though, where you realise that you aren’t Gordon Ramsey and the novelty of cooking new dishes wears off. We go from one extreme to the other, one moment cooking up a storm, the next, just wanting your food ready and brought to you! There is only Read More

Restaurant review: Pizzart by Dino, Limassol

With coronavirus measures still in place and all restaurants shuttered until further notice, finding new places to eat comes with the caveat of needing to have the food delivered to your door rather than experiencing the entire dining proposition in a more holistic way. So was the case with the fairly new restaurant Pizzart by Dino in Limassol, which opened earlier this year. If it sounds familiar to any Limassol residents, that’s because Dino has been a staple name in Read More

Restaurant review: To Archipelago fish tavern, Zygi

One thing I love about Cyprus is that you are never more than a short drive away from the sea. Soothing in the summer, when the weather starts to turn, being by the sea can be quite a spectacle. Waves crashing up against the rocks and hearing the roaring of the sea is a little more exciting. This was one of the reasons we decided to head out to Zygi to try one of the tavernas by the sea. Restaurant review: Agora, Limassol

I grew up in Limassol’s old town, with my family working in the area around Saripolou street. Watching the old town turn into a bustling centre focused on young people, be it for education, entertainment, coworking spaces and more, has been intriguing to say the least. I remember the Pantopoleio, the market, in the early 90s, when stepping foot inside was not for the faint of heart. The smell of butchered meat, fresh fish and ample amounts of produce would Read More

Craft distillery launches island's first gin

“You’ve got to tell your story,” says Aris Aristidou, co-founder (with his wife Marianna) of Aristides Distilling. Authentic Italian cuisine is hard to come by outside Italy as its enormous popularity and availability has, over the years, seen it inevitably adapt to local tastes everywhere in the world. That is why Monica and Paola, the owners and chefs of That’s Amore in Limassol, managed to make me feel right at home Read More

Bar review: Metropole Hotel Vintage Tea Room, Limassol

By Tracy Roth-Rotsas Hiding away in plain sight in the old town of Limassol is the unique Metropole Hotel Vintage Tea Room, which has become a beacon for tourists meandering around the cobblestone streets of the area and a not-so-well-kept secret for the local British community. Bar review: Sykaminia Café, Paphos

Established in 1953, Sykaminia Café is one of the oldest cafés in Paphos and remains popular with both locals and tourists as a warm welcome is guaranteed. Many people discover it while wandering through the old town, or driving past and noticing the inviting stone frontage. Although there are a number of other cafés dotted around, Sykaminia is unique and ‘alternative’, there is no chain store vibe here, which is part of the charm. Sykaminia is a wonderfully traditional venue Read More

Restaurant review: Taverna Zenon, Larnaca

One thing that can definitely be said about Cyprus is that there is no shortage of places to go and eat. This is useful when guests come from abroad! Bar review: Stories day & night bar, Larnaca

In recent years, the bar scene in Larnaca has greatly improved. The old, once dilapidated buildings of the Laiki Yitonia area have been restored and rejuvenated while still keeping a lot of their original features, meaning that the bars are not only in beautiful stone buildings with character but also have their own twist of modern design.Walking around the area one night, we heard the sound of music in the distance. As we walked along it got louder and Read More

Restaurant review: The Noodle House, Limassol

Going out to dinner in Limassol can be a bit hit and miss but every now and again you strike gold. Located at the far end of St Andrew’s Street is The Noodle House, and any closer to gold it would shimmer. It is casual, yet elegant. Large tables, wide chairs, simple settings. An open kitchen gently lures us inside with a plethora of unusual scents. Fires dance on stoves and pans clatter gently amid the dull murmur of conversation. Read More

Restaurant review: Voreas, Larnaca

Walking through the quaint streets of the village of Oroklini on the outskirts of Larnaca, you notice all the old style village houses that over the years have maintained their charm. Bar review: The Secret Garden, Larnaca

With the weather slowly changing, it is now more bearable to go out for an afternoon stroll down town. After walking through Larnaca’s busy Phinikoudes we decided to sit for a drink but wanted some peace and quiet, not to be sat in one of the packed out cafés along the sea front.Walking away from Phinikoudes towards St Lazarus church, my partner spotted a couple of endearing tables and chairs on the cobblestone pavement so we went to take Read More

Transitioning successful family businesses in CyprusFor the founders of family businesses all over the world, succession has always been an important issue. In Cyprus, where 95% of companies are family-owned and the vast majority were set up during the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, a well-planned handover by the founders – who, in many cases, are well past retirement age – to second and third generation family members is even more essential if their companies are to continue to thrive. Restaurant review: Ifalos, Protaras

It being summer, we headed recently to Protaras, which being near full capacity meant we ended up staying away from the main strip, towards Paralimni. Despite not being in the thick of it, the beaches were still beautiful and there were plenty of bars and restaurants about, including one that had come highly recommended and was only a 10-minute walk away.Struggling to find it we learnt that it had shut down. Not wanting to walk much further we simply Read More

Restaurant review To Patrikon Tersefanou Larnaca

If somebody recommended a taverna in a small village, 15 minutes outside of Larnaca, you would assume that it is just another traditional restaurant with the standard meze, possibly with a few dishes that aren’t expected but still nothing too extravagant. Going to To Patrikon taverna in Tersefanou, I’m almost ashamed to say that this is more or less what I expected. But the family-run taverna that has been perfecting the art of creative Cypriot cuisine for the last three Read More

Restaurant review The Marrakech Restaurant Paphos

One of the great joys for me of living in the Mediterranean is the seemingly infinite variations of the same dishes. The different combinations of herbs and spices that produce the signature taste of different countries. Also the country-by-country speciality dishes that mark out the different areas around the region, all underlined by the basics of lamb, pork, chicken, chickpeas and lentils and unleavened bread. The Marrakech Restaurant on the coast road in Kissonerga is a prime example of Mediterranean Read More

Restaurant review Grazie Paphos

The Grazie Italian Restaurant in Kato Paphos must surely rank among the town’s top 10 restaurants, a place where the menu, the chef and the food that exits the kitchen take priority over the senselessness and chronic rudeness displayed these days by so many phone-addicted punters who seem to be following the credo that they ‘eat to live’ and instead of ‘living to eat’. I love food and always relish the theatrical experience a restaurant can offer, with the good Read More
